Should I Use a Water Distiller or a Reverse Osmosis System?

Both water distillers and reverse osmosis systems produce very pure water. However, each has its own advantages and disadvantages.
Both water distillers and reverse osmosis systems produce very pure water. However, each has its own advantages and disadvantages. This section is intended to help you decide whether you should go for a reverse osmosis system or a water distiller.ADVANTAGES of water distillers compared to reverse osmosis systems:- Less wastage of water because water distillers lose about 15% of the water through evaporation, whereas RO systems reject more than 75% of the water passing through the system- No need for filter cartridge changes except for a polishing carbon filter once every month or two months- Bacteria (including E.coli are effectively destroyed (RO systems need an additional UV sterilizer to ensure complete elimination of bacteria)- Portable models does not require installation (but automatic water feed models require installation)DISADVANTAGES of water distillers compared to reverse osmosis systems:- Much slower water production rate- Generates and releases moisture indoors (except for model WD-D3 which sends moisture down a drain pipe)- Consumption of electricity which may be expensive in some regions or countries(To calculate the cost of electricity per year: Price of electricity per kilowatt-hour x wattage of distiller /1000 x average no. of hours of use per day x 365)- May need occasional descaling in hard water areas- High production rate models are costlier than reverse osmosis systems
