How to Remove Metallic/Plastic Taste from the Distiller Product Water on Initial Use

On first use, there is a chance of finding a plastic or metallic taste in the distilled water. Please find out whether this taste comes from the water storage jug (if any) that comes with the distiller. If the taste is there, it is the taste of chemicals used in the manufacturing process of the jug. Open the cap on the jug, and let it air out for 24 hours or more. The taste will usually dissipate. If not, rinse the jug with diluted bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) or white vinegar, then rinse with clean water.

If the taste is not in the storage jug but in the water coming out from the spout of the water distiller, fill the boiling chamber with water to the "full" line, then add either two teaspoons (10ml) of bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) or white vinegar. Turn on and complete the distilling cycle. Repeat several times if necessary - the taste will eventually dissipate.

If your water distiller has a demand pump, an inexpensive in-line carbon block cartridge may be added easily to remove any undesirable taste in the distilled water. Email us for details
